What is E-Hailing? Basically, e-hailing is the process of ordering a car, taxi, limousine, or any other form of transportation pickup via one’s own mobile or tablet. The features of the service varies from one application or service provider to another but in basic terms.

E-Hailing involves the use of an application installed on the user’s device of choice, whereby the user books a trip or ‘hails a ride’ electronically by providing their desired pickup and drop location, either by entering an address or providing a current GPS location.

1. With the E-Hailing Regulations, your ride will be safer than before. Apparently, the safety of their customers and drivers have been a huge priority for Grab, and this is reflected not just in terms of various features within the app such as an emergency SOS button and driver reporting features, but also under-the-hood policies that drivers must follow to continue driving for them.

2. Below are the requirements and procedures for the grab drivers, in order to fulfill the New E-Hailing regulations:

  • Driver should obtained a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) licence or a proof of passing the PSV exam

  • Driver should get the E-Hailing vehicle permit

  • Driver should provide a valid E-Hailing insurance

  • If the driver’s vehicle is more than 3 years old from the date of manufacture, driver should go for a car inspection, in order to get the Puspakom disc

  • Driver should displayed the E-Hailing sticker on the front and rear windscreen of his vehicle

If the drivers didn’t fulfill any one of these above, they won’t be able to get on the app.

3. This will not only impact to the grab, but also affects the other E-Hailing companies as well, such as MyCar, JomRides, MULA and Dacsee. As a passenger or commuter, you need to submit a photo of your MyKad to the e-hailing company for registration purposes, in order to eliminate those fake accounts.

4. But for passengers or users, there are a few more predictions floating around the industry such as:

  • Possible higher fares

  • Longer waiting times

  • Not even being able to get a ride, especially during peak hours and rainy weather

In spite of that, these new regulations would result in a better and safer experience, but the fact is that you may have trouble getting a ride because there will be less drivers on the road. If you are booking a ride, make sure that you have a lot more time allotted for your travels, and probably be prepared to fork out a little more.
